Cotopaxi volcano, standing at 5,897 meters, is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world. The National Park is a vast and beautiful territory made up of pine forests, lagoons, and trails where you can engage in adventure activities. One of them is the bike tour, which we combine with a hike to the first refuge of the Cotopaxi volcano.

The experience begins with a hike to the José Rivas refuge, located at 4,864 meters above sea level, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Cotopaxi's snow-capped peak and the surrounding valleys. After exploring the area on foot and reaching the first refuge, the thrilling bike descent begins.

The bike route takes you down trails surrounded by volcanic landscapes, páramo plains, and pine forests, offering a unique blend of adrenaline and natural beauty. Along the way, cyclists may spot animals such as wild horses, Andean foxes, and native birds.

Arrival at 4,600 m

• Begin your hike to the José Rivas Refuge at 4,800 m.

• Rest, enjoy a packed lunch, and take photos in this high-altitude alpine environment.

Scenic Bike Descent

• Return to the base and prepare for the bike ride.

• Enjoy a downhill ride through open terrain and volcanic trails.

• Stop at Limpiopungo Lagoon and the park’s interpretation center/museum.

Return to Baños

• Our van will be waiting at Limpiopungo.
