Itinerary
DAY 1
-Baltra Island and Santa Cruz Island
Visit to Santa Cruz Island from Baltra Airport
Upon arrival at Baltra Airport, we embark on a scenic drive to the Itabaca Channel for a ferry ride to Santa Cruz Island. After a short 30-minute bus ride, we ascend into the island's captivating and lush Highlands, where we explore its unique ecosystems and rich biodiversity. A delicious lunch awaits us at a charming local restaurant.
Exploring the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island
After lunch, our excursion continues as we head to a nearby reserve, renowned as one of the archipelago's prime locations for observing giant tortoises in their natural habitat. These majestic creatures roam peacefully, grazing on grasses and leaves, and basking in the tranquility of small pools. The reserve also boasts several intriguing lava tunnels to explore. Our trip concludes with a short bus transfer to Puerto Ayora to board the Isabela II cruise ship and continue our adventures.
DAY 2
-Santiago Island and Chinese Hat Islet
Discover Puerto Egas on Santiago Island
After a wet landing on the stunning black sand beach, our tour takes us on a journey to marvel at close encounters with recently reintroduced land iguanas alongside land and sea birds, amidst layers of tuff, craggy rocks, and lava formations. Marine iguanas feed on algae at low tide, while sea lions rest in the shade of the rocks.
Explore Chinese Hat Islet
This relatively young islet offers a picturesque afternoon excursion as we walk its 400-meter trail, which begins at a crescent-shaped white-sand beach. The cove is an excellent opportunity for swimming and snorkeling, where encounters with white-tip reef sharks and charming Galapagos penguins await.
DAY 3
-Genovese Island
Experience the Ravine on Genovese Island
Begin your day with a scenic panga ride along the cliffs of "Bird Island," as Genovesa is affectionately known, before disembarking at a wooden staircase leading to a vast plateau. The trail winds through extensive colonies of Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, magnificent frigatebirds, and petrels. Keep your eyes peeled for the elusive short-eared owl. For those who prefer not to disembark, a panga (inflatable boat) excursion along the cliffs is available, weather permitting. Additional activities, such as snorkeling and kayaking, can also be arranged.
Explore Darwin Bay on Genovese Island
After a satisfying lunch, we arrived at the pristine white sands of Darwin Bay. Here, you can observe numerous bird species, predominantly frigatebirds, red-footed boobies, and Nazca boobies, along with gulls, herons, finches, and mockingbirds.
DAY 4
-Santa Fe Island and South Plaza Island
Explore Santa Fe Island
Take a panga boat to the serene white-sand beaches of Santa Fe Island, home to bustling colonies of sea lions. Watch majestic Galapagos hawks perched gracefully on the salt bushes. As you explore, you might catch a glimpse of the Santa Fe land iguana. Conclude your trip with the option of snorkeling and swimming alongside a natural wave barrier or enjoying a glass-bottom boat tour.
Discover South Plaza Island
After a satisfying lunch break, disembark in this channel characterized by turquoise waters that contrast with the white sands of the shore and the black lava. Walk forward to find a vibrant carpet of scarlet sesuvium succulents covering the ground around the bright green spiny pear cacti. Yellowish-gray land iguanas patiently await the fallen pears beneath these cacti. Along the shore, observe the lively colonies of sea lions while frigatebirds, swallow-tailed terns, and petrels soar gracefully above, dancing on the thermals.
DAY 5
-Baltra Island
Baltra Airport
Our journey concludes on Baltra Island, where we head to the airport to catch our flight back to the mainland.
